Embed Your Company Logo In Your URL

Presenting a consistent image across all marketing collateral is important for customers to remember you.  Collateral includes, business cards, company stationery, flyers, blogs and more.  One area people may forget is to include their company logo in their URL.  These are little pictures that appear next to your URL in the address bar on web browsers and next to their bookmark.

Why do this?  You want your customers to associate your logo with your brand much like the apple logo is associated with "Apple" the company.  People will remember a logo easier than a URL.
Embedding your logo into your url is Free and easy. There are three steps:

  1.  First you have to convert your logo into a "favicon.ico" format.  There are many free websites that do this.  You can go to www.favicon.ico generator to create one from your current image.  Make sure you name the file favicon.ico.  Download the converted file to your computer.
  2. Upload to your website "favicon.ico" into the same directory as your home page; usually your root directory
  3.  Copy the following code and place it in the head section of each web page making sure to change the HREF to the name of your website.  Leave the "/favicon.ico":
<link rel="icon" type="image/ico" Href="http://www.nameofyourwebsite/favicon.ico"/>
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://www.nameofyourwebsite/favicon.ico"/>

It takes a few minutes to a few hours for the change to cycle through the Internet.  So check back to make sure it took effect.  Once completed, your company logo will appear in the address bar to the left of the url URL and in any bookmarks.  The latter is especially helpful when someone is looking for your website.
